postcards from NSW

During the Christmas holiday from my day job, i got some serious studio time in, and continued a tradition of mine that is painting big from tiny collages. The collages i have made, over the years have been mostly made with glue and scissors and pictures of fish and aquatic stuff and then covered with selotape and posted back to the UK from warmer, more turquoise, ocean related places. Mainly Australia.

Of course a part of me wishes that i was there, in the ocean, on the beach rather than wearing wooly hat gloves and scarf to cycle down to the RedBrickBuilding for painting time. But then many many good things happen in retrospect. what i thought i was learning, and what shapes and patterns i thought i would bring back with me, is entirely different to the life lessons, and the paintings that actually occured.

Patterns on things.

A whole 9 years after graduating ( i think) from LCC in London where i studied surface pattern design... I'm finally applying the mountains of images i've been creating all around the world to surfaces other than walls! Mural painting certainly has surface design considerations, clearly i love patterns!...but now its all about the digital side...

As a starting point i'm using the awesome platform that is Californian based Society6 to design and order products just to start to get a vision of digital versions of my painty handwork in various formats and on various products. Wish i'd listened in adobe illustrator classes in 2005 rather than daydreaming about skateboarding.  Time tapping at laptop does NOT compare to clambering on ladders and getting painty outdoors ... yet. i might get into it.

All my products are available for anybody to buy online

NOt so silk screens

Getting all inspired after time at the Dove studios , to get my printing head back on again. Due to constant traveling and moving over the last 8 yrs, ive only been able to print as and when the facilites and/or funds have been available to me. Something is different this time. Combining forces and studio space with local graphic designersJollyGoodShow  in the next month should see more product and more of this kind of illustration appearing.

Drawing in the abstract

WAking up to getting involved in the scene back here in Somerset

attending a wonderful private view of a celebration of 45 years of the Dove studios. An idylic artist community turned workshop space where i used to hang out as a tiny toddler.

and taking part in an abstract drawing workshop in the very same space, leadby the wonderful Pennie Elfick

Making lines and shapes with no judgement as to what it looks like. good lessons for life in general too

Home and Away

Finally made it back into my own home after 5 years elsewhere. I know it's hard to keep up with me most of the time... but from now on i'll be mostly in this kitchen with these butterflies in Glastonbury. Please come over for tea

Restoration

6 years ago, freshly inspired by Brazillian travels surrounded by tropical floral beauty, i painted this exterior commission along the popular tourist walking route up Glastonbury Tor.

Since then, some ( not all ) of the colours have faded and i was commissioned last week to touch up some cracks left by structural work as well as revive the original vibrancy.

Revisiting this house, and this old project has been a lovely look at how far i've come with my techniques and approaches to ladders since 2009

New backgrounds

Working hard to create new and abstract compositions these days.
Work in progress on a private mural in rural somerset

Marroccan Wall- Melting pot

Fresh off the boat, or the train, or whatever type of journey it was that i went on for a week at Glastonbury festival that made me feel wonky until at least the 4th of July, I joyfully decorated a friends back yard.

We chose a Marroccan tile pattern to start, used Greek inspired colours, listened to Jamaican music, drank Mexican beer and then ordered Thai food to celebrate . Good old England!!!!

Glastonbury 2015. Shangri-la

This years Worthy Farm input was in the shape of these glorious greek-yoghurt inspired shiny signs for the heaven lounge in Shangri-la. And now i take my annual vow to learn to sign-write the real way rather than treating words like graphic murals .

All organic everyday. SANTOS ORGANICS Byron Bay

Long awaited chalk board paint job in SANTOS organics cafe in the A+I estate Byron Bay.

I reckon i have seriously cheered up Josh here by painting his favourite heliconia flowers all around his workplace.

Eachtime i'm drinking a smoothie or a juice or eating the life-changing protein pattie burger i feel like a chump for ever complaining about my life. Ever
